This, said Stampin and Bukit Mertajam MPs Julian Tan and Steven Sim, was to ensure lessons from the tragedy were learnt.
Among the alleged non-compliance the duo cited included discrepancies in the missing aircraft’s cargo manifest, the presence of two passengers with stolen passports on board the plane, and delays in the distress alarm, which should have been triggered within an hour after MH370 disappeared from radar.
“The MH370 crisis is not merely a Malaysian problem but a crisis of a global scale,” said Sim in a press conference at Parliament here today.
He said the Opposition had repeatedly called for a bipartisan parliamentary select committee to oversee the investigation process and for a White Paper on the incident.
These requests however, he claimed, were rejected by the government.
“I have submitted two more questions in this sitting on this matter and we urge the government to respond in a clear and transparent manner.
“A White Paper should be published so all Malaysians, as well as the whole world, would know the non-compliance that occurred and what actions should be taken.”
Sim also said the proposed panel should look into three areas that had yet to be addressed. These revolved around immigration, military and police investigations.
“What Malaysians and the world want to know are the type of actions taken against such non-compliance, both disciplinary and legal, and the corrective measures implemented to prevent recurrences.
“The scary part is, no one knows if these problems have been resolved. This means all of us are flying daily with the shadow of MH370 looming over us, not knowing if our flight will be the next MH370.”
The ill-fated Boeing 777 was carrying 239 passengers and crew when it went missing an hour after it departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, en route to Beijing on March 8, 2014.
A search is on going in the southern Indian Ocean for its wreckage. So far only a flaperon from the plane has been recovered from the Reunion Island. Another tail part, recovered in Mozambique, has been sent for analysis.
