Lim said the King was merely reading out the speech prepared by the government when he said that he wanted the continuation of the current administration to realise the goal of making the country a high-income nation.
“The Agong’s speech is (prepared) by the government,” he said during Pakatan Harapan’s media conference at Parliament here today when asked for his comment on the opening speech.
In his speech, the King urged all lawmakers to stop politicking, adding that the politicians should appreciate different opinions among themselves instead of toppling and slandering each other.
Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) President Mohamad Sabu said he disagreed with the King’s remarks.
“We are a political party. We have to play politics until the end of our lives. We are politicians, not NGOs,” said Mat Sabu.
Meanwhile, when asked about the King’s advice for politicians to stop shaming the country, Opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, during the press conference, simply said: “It is not us shaming the country.”
