The PAS Ulama Council information chief said PAS was always ready to cooperate should Mahathir decide to fight for Islam and against the tyranny of the administration’s handling of the nation’s finances.

“Dr Mahathir cannot work alone without a political platform for his ideas. Dr Mahathir can join PAS if he’s ever interested in fighting for Islam as a state policy,” he told FMT.

“Dr Mahathir can even work with PAS to fight against tyranny and the lack of transparency in the handling of the nation’s finances.”

Khairuddin said PAS practicsed mature politics and was ready to cooperate with all for the nation’s good.

“Based on the mature and prosperous politics that has been PAS’ approach, any political cooperation, especially with personalities like Dr Mahathir, Muhyiddin and Mukhriz, will definitely benefit the nation,” he said.

At the same time, Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar found Mahathir’s departure from Umno shocking, as he had not showed any sign of wanting to do so when the two had met recently.

“I never imagined he would leave Umno, but his decision clearly shows his disappointment in Najib and how Umno has become a servile party,” he said.

The former PAS information chief also added that he would not agree to Mahathir joining the Opposition, as the time was not right.

“It’s not the right time for Tun M to join the Opposition, but he needs to lead the rakyat and unite all parties to save the country,” he said.
