PETALING JAYA:
Barisan Nasional (BN) channeled RM2 million in taxpayers money to fund their 13th General Election campaign, PKR Secretary-General Rafizi Ramli alleged today.

He claimed the Finance Ministry in April 2013 had channeled the money to the Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Maicci).

The Pandan MP also produced copies of a letter from the Treasury dated April 23, 2013, to Maicci president K K Eswaran, along with the minutes of the association’s meeting dated May 11, 2013, where it was stated that the president had allegedly admitted to obtaining a RM2.5 million “donation” for election purposes.

“Now we have evidence that part of BN’s campaign was funded by taxpayers money.

“(This case) has a much larger legal repercussion because the RM2 million is public funds,” he told a press conference at the party’s headquarters.

Rafizi also claimed to have in his possession, invoices that detailed how the RM2 million was spent to support BN’s GE13 campaign, which he said he would reveal in another press conference this week.

The remaining RM500,000 was inferred by Rafizi as a source of funding for the association.

“I want to focus on public funds. We can ascertain so far that the figure (on the alleged invoices) matches the expenditures which we will reveal at a later date,” he said.

Eswaran and Maicci could not be reached for comments as it was reported that the president was currently warded at the Prince Court Hospital.
