KUALA LUMPUR:
Unlike Pakatan Rakyat, component parties of the new Opposition coalition of Pakatan Harapan (PH) will not resort to infighting Amanah Communications Director Khalid Samad said today.

This commitment to work together will help the parties the most when it comes to the distribution of seats in the next general election, which PH component parties will discuss internally until a mutual agreement is reached, Khalid said.

He also stressed that his party would not demand for “this and that” and as a member of the coalition, would instead support DAP and PKR with the seats it was vying for.

“And (I’m sure) they will do the same for Amanah. But no, there is no such thing as this are PKR’s seats, or this are DAP’s seats or Amanah’s.”

Khalid who was speaking to the press at the party’s headquarters here today said this when replying to questions regarding a statement by PKR Youth secretary and Teja assemblyman Chang Lih Kang that DAP give up half its seats to Amanah in the next general election.

He was also asked to comment on PAS’ outrage that several PKR leaders had attended Amanah programmes in Kelantan, and said it was an issue that the Islamist party had to deal with privately as Amanah would never reprimand any of PH’s component parties if they participated in PAS events.

He said what mattered most was that PKR would contest in the next general election under the PH banner.

He also pointed out that with the newly-signed PH agreement, leeway had been given to members to work with parties outside the coalition as well.

“PH won’t fight against each other, just against Barisan Nasional and its allies.”
