Ampang police vow crackdown on illegal gambling dens

Law enforcers yet to discover existence of ‘gambling kingpin’ as alleged by JMM.

AMPANG: Police have promised to investigate all evidence and information submitted today by non-governmental organisation, Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) on the existence of a gambling kingpin controlling the Ampang Jaya area.

Ampang Jaya Police Chief, ACP Hamzah Alias said the police monitored and raided such dens periodically, but have yet to identify any specific person operating a gambling network of such magnitude.20160119045827

“At this juncture, the police have yet to confirm any individual specifically involved in such activities, as every time the police checked, we found it was operated by different individuals,” he told reporters today.

Earlier this afternoon, JMM, a Malay-rights group, submitted proof alleging the existence of a gambling kingpin, whom they referred to as ‘Datuk Seri’, operating illegally in the Ampang area.

JMM president, Azwanddin Hamzah also said the police had not acted on their reports before today.
