Dubbed by some as the ‘King of Police Reports’, Abdul Rani today became its subject and was questioned for close to two and a half hours at the Gombak police station.
The issue arose over his recent acceptance of a datukship from the self-styled “Sultan of Malacca”, Raja Noor Jan Shah, which carries the dubious title “Datuk Paduka Mahkota Melaka”, with photos of the ‘investiture’ circulated on social media.
Defending his unwitting action, he said that if the datukship given to him was wrong or illegal, then a valid one should be given to him to avoid confusion.
“I took it (the datukship) because someone gave it to me. I didn’t ask for it. Is it wrong for me to accept it? If it’s wrong, give me the valid one,” he told reporters after giving his statement today.
“I have been devoting myself to this ‘police report’ (profession) to the extent that I am now known as the ‘King of Police Reports’.” He made a fashionable entrance at the police station, arriving in a patrol car.
According to Abdul Rani, a few police officers had come to meet him at Taman Sri Gombak to probe the datukship awarded and admitted he had no idea that it would become such a big issue.
“People already said that one day it would backfire on me. So this is it, it has backfired. But I had to go through this for a reason, and the facts of the case are not as simple as they seem.
“I didn’t expect that so many were interested to know what happened. I would like to say thank you to the police officers who came all the way from Malacca to take my statement.”
