KUALA LUMPUR:
With the Lunar New Year right around the corner, everyone is surely looking forward to a food-laden reunion dinner.

This year, eat X dignity café, a transformational enterprise by the Dignity for Children Foundation, is offering a wholly unique Malaysian reunion dish – Nasi Lemak Itik Kerutuk.

The local NGO has been providing quality education and holistic care to underprivileged children for the past 24 years.

To the Chinese, duck symbolises fertility, making this a truly auspicious dish during a season of happiness, prosperity and health.

The ducks used are 100% organic and free from antibiotics as they are sourced directly from Dignity’s Farm in Bentong.

Nasi Lemak Itik Kerutuk will be available in store at eat X dignity; alternatively, have it delivered directly to your doorstep. It is priced at RM24 per set excluding delivery charges.

If this ducky dish is not “quack” for you, bake X dignity offers a selection of Lunar New Year snacks.

Choose from lychee blossom, salted egg yolk, or signature chocolate cookies, in addition to Florentines and the all-time festive favourite, pineapple tarts.

The baked goodies come in individual small and large jars – priced at RM17 and RM33, respectively – as well as in gift sets.

The small corporate gift set (RM88 each) includes three small cans of cookies, one brocade angpao, a postcard, and specially designed packaging.

Meanwhile, the large set (RM158) comprises three large cans of cookies, an envelope of blessings or three sets of angpao, plus a postcard and specially designed packaging with a custom sticker.

Funds raised from the sale of the baked goods and nasi lemak will be used to sustain the transformational enterprises and continued skills training of Dignity’s students working at the café and bakery.

On another (musical) note…

If you are looking for something different to usher in the Year of the Rabbit, the Voices of Dignity choir has a treat for you.

A change from cymbals and drums, treat your guests and employees to a medley of Mandarin songs including “Tian Mi Mi”, “Flower Drum”, “Gong Xi Ni”, “Ta Fei Nian”, and “Kan Ding”.

This 16-person choir is made up of youngsters from various ethnicities – orang asal, Indians and Chinese Malaysians – who have been practising diligently for the festive celebration.

“These children are amazing, given the fact that many started without being able to speak a word of English,” said Dignity co-founder and chief executive officer Petrina Satvinder, who leads the choir.

“Now they can sing in English and Mandarin – a great achievement indeed!”

A tax-deductible booking fee of RM3,000 applies, which will go towards the education of marginalised children attending school at Dignity.
