What better way to appreciate Merdeka than to enjoy Malaysian cuisine at its best?

And “best” here refers to the vast array of delectable delicacies that Chek’s Coffee House has on offer throughout the months of August and September.

Specifically, it’s a storm of sumptuous, fresh, sweet and succulent seafood, so leave the umbrellas behind and bring your appetites instead.

With the theme of “Ikan Bakar ala Kampung with Seafood”, you can certainly tell what’s cooking at this foodie haven.

Perhaps it’s time to embrace a “see-food” diet, where you see food, and eat food. After all, everything here looks sinfully tempting!

Upon entering the restaurant, you’ll be greeted by the glorious sight of an assortment of seafood laid out on the nearest buffet counter.

Stingray, squid, crab, prawn; everything you want from a seafood extravaganza. More importantly, you can take your pick and the chefs on duty will promptly grill your seafood selection, with a generous amount of sambal and okra to boot.

With the “ikan bakar” here being up to par, this seafood feast definitely lives up to the promise of its theme.

However, there’s more than just “ikan bakar” at this buffet and all you have to do is follow the line of buffet counters to see what else is on offer.

Among the just-cooked seafood dishes here is the Shrimp Vindaloo made up of juicy shrimps soaking in a spicy gravy, and Ketam Bunga Masak Lemak Cili Api, a crab dish with a spicy kick.

And for something a little different, try the Parmesan Crusted Baked Fish, a sinfully cheesy treat, and the Pan Seared Perch with Tomato Basil Sauce for something a little sour, a little sweet.

Craving more than just seafood? Why not help yourself to some dim sum or place an order for the classic chicken rice or asam laksa.

Remember to sample the Otak-Otak tucked away at the corner; it tends to empty out faster than you can say Jack Robinson!

As befitting any seafood banquet, there is also a respectable selection of goodies at the Seafood on Ice display with plenty of oysters to go around. You can also feast on sashimi or work on cracking those crab legs open.

There is also a small selection of sushi and salads, with some, like the Udang Ala Thai not to be missed.

When it comes to desserts, Chek’s pulls out all the stops. To be honest, many of these pastries, cakes and jellies are simply too pretty to eat, but surely you brought that second stomach for a good reason, right?

There are also Malaysian desserts aplenty. Make your own ais kacang with unlimited toppings or ask the chef to cook up a piping hot apam balik with any filling you desire.

Well, this sounds like quite the feast, so what about the price tag? Surprisingly enough, the buffet is priced at a reasonable RM138 for adults, RM78 for seniors and RM68 for kids.
