[NON-HALAL]
The ramen scene in Malaysia has boomed in recent years, and there are now more choices than ever. If you’re in the vicinity of Mont Kiara in Kuala Lumpur, one establishment you should try for delicious, authentic Japanese noodles is a relative newcomer by the name of Ken Shin-Ryu Ramen.
The restaurant is located at 1 Mont Kiara, a neighbourhood mall that doesn’t see a whole lot of traffic on regular days. It is run by Sapporo-born chef Kita Koichi, with recipes inspired from his time with the late Kawana-san, a renowned chef who ran the restaurant Kiori-tei in Shibuya.
True to the style of a proper ramen place, the noodles here are made fresh every day with Japanese wheat flour. For your soup base, choose from clear (original Tokyo style) or tonkotsu, with salt, shoyu, black garlic, and spicy options.
The salt and black garlic options are both delicious, although the latter is stronger tasting – both with a good umami note and a distinct collagen-filled texture.

Accompanying ingredients include the usual chasiu and ramen-style egg, as well as some sort of Japanese “wantan”, and slices of very tender chicken breast if you order the “special” option priced at RM39.
The chasiu made from sakura pork and egg was absolutely delicious, and the unique dumpling really enjoyable as well.
Most noteworthy were the homemade noodles, which had a satisfying bite and gave Ken Shin-Ryu Ramen an edge over the “everyday” ramen found in most other establishments.
Go on and give this place a try – you will definitely be well-pleased with your meal and will return for more in the future.
