Known as the best place for you to get your fill of authentic street food in the state, this popular back-lane joint still stands strong after decades of business.
If you’ve made your way south and find yourself spoilt for choice at Meldrum Walk, take a gander at our picks of all the alleyway has to offer.
1. Md Nooh Sup Kambing

Run by Noohu, as he prefers to be called, Md Nooh Sup Kambing specialises in just one dish: mutton soup. Yet all the tables in the vicinity of his stall were fully occupied when FMT dropped by.
The Johor native explains what makes his soup so special: “The recipe has remained unchanged for 20 years. The people my father served would have tasted the exact same soup my customers are having now.”
Priced at RM7 upwards, the thick mutton broth is filled to the brim with meat, a stark contrast to some of the offerings in Kuala Lumpur where the soup occupies most of the bowl.
Try it with rice or Noohu’s recommendation – charcoal baked bread.
2. Resepi Mak Yati

Satay stall owner Mohd Khairul Haqimi can usually be seen chit-chatting with the customers. But don’t let this fool you into thinking his stall is not open for business – he only starts a fire with every new order.
While there are other hawkers here selling the same thing, Khairul, 37, keeps his customers coming back by ensuring he grills every order himself.
At Resepi Mak Yati you’ll find only soft and tender meat, whether chicken, beef, or lamb.
You won’t have to worry about biting into your satay only to find it too chewy or having a burnt taste: Khairul’s eyes never leave the grill, with every flip of the skewers – priced at RM1.20 apiece – timed to perfection.
3. JB Fried Oyster

JB Fried Oyster, managed by husband-and-wife duo Fong Ah Seng and Go E Cheng, offers oyster omelettes so delectable that it has been dubbed one of the best in Malaysia.
The “wok hei” – meaning smoky aroma – of the dish is what makes it unforgettable. The oysters and eggs are tossed into the pan, fried on high heat, and are still sizzling when they find their way into the cardboard packaging.
If you’ve come all the way and expect to feast immediately on Johor’s legendary fried oyster omelette, you’ll be sorely disappointed. Fong tells FMT that orders are made two weeks in advance, after which customers can make their way to Meldrum Walk to collect them or arrange for a home-delivery service.
Prices for small, medium and large are RM8, RM10 and RM13 respectively.
4. Chicken BBQ

Chicken BBQ has been around for 30 years, amassing a cult following statewide, and for good reason.
Served piping hot right off the charcoal grill, these charred, sweet chicken wings and drumettes taste best when dipped into Chicken BBQ’s homemade chilli sauce.
If you enjoy tangy undertones, be sure to squeeze some lime on top of the crispy chicken skin before digging in.
Chicken wings are RM1.80 each, and a chicken thigh will cost you RM3.60, while a whole chicken costs RM11.
