Prawn mee, or Hokkien mee as it is called in Penang, is undoubtedly one of the most popular hawker dishes on the island. It is found in almost every kopitiam or hawker centre, and usually ranks among the top favourite food of any Penangite.

Prawn mee often comes with yellow noodles, mee hoon, or a combination of both. However, if you find yourself on the island, there’s one stall in particular that offers a unique concoction: wantan mee in prawn mee soup.

That’s right – the classic thin noodles commonly served in a plate of wantan mee, paired with the tasty, spicy prawn-enriched broth of Hokkien mee. This stall at the Mount Erskine morning market sells both dishes, so you can ask for this unusual combination, which is well worth a try.

The thin noodles soak up the delicious broth very well and have a great, springy texture. For only RM4 a bowl, how can you resist?
