Knowhere Bangsar was established in 2018 and is well-known among foodies for its fusion fare. This year it offers a taste of national pride with its Pizza Kantoi line.
For the uninitiated, “kantoi” means “to be caught red-handed”, and there’s a reason these pizzas were given the name. While they resemble your everyday pizza, they are actually imposters as their base is made with two pieces of flatbread rather than a layer of dough. Doh!
Knowhere Bangsar manager Ainul Akmal tells FMT that despite the difficulties posed by the pandemic, he and his staff wanted to cheer folks up during this time.
With Malaysia Day approaching, he hopes the Pizza Kantoi line will help remind people of what it means to be Malaysian.

As Knowhere’s Chef Razis puts it: “These are flavours that all Malaysians will remember, the flavours they grew up with.”
The “Oh So Lemak” is first on the list, and it clearly draws inspiration from the national dish. Characteristic anchovies, peanuts, cucumber and egg are part of the topping – and what is nasi lemak without sambal?
Add to that a sprinkling of mozzarella cheese, and you have a pizza that pays proper homage to the most Malaysian of dishes.

Up next is the “Satay No Sorry”, which features Malaysia’s famed skewers. Meat served with onion, cucumber and a tasty peanut sauce results in a sweet-and-salty delight.
Each bite simply has to be savoured, and afterwards, you just might ring up Knowhere to ask for their peanut sauce recipe.

Folks from Negeri Sembilan hankering for a taste of home and hearth will definitely want to give this next pizza a try.
The “Salai Confirm Lomak” is best described as a beef-bacon pizza sprinkled with a frightening amount of cili padi.
It has a curiously addictive and almost herbal taste, accentuated by chunks of beef and the tongue-searing bird’s eyes. Definitely a must-try for lovers of spicy food!

Malaysians have a strange fondness for salted egg, and Knowhere, too, has incorporated its distinct flavour into its “Huat A Prawn” pizza.
Fresh and juicy prawns buttered to the point of sinfulness prominently top this pizza and are salted with golden egg-yolk dust.
It costs a little more, but it is definitely worth it to enjoy a slice of heaven.

Indian cuisine is one of the pillars of the Malaysian culinary experience, so it isn’t surprising that Knowhere has included it in its delectable lineup.
The experience gained from taking a bite of “Biryani Fefeeling” may not be the same as scooping up a steaming hot spoonful of rice, but it certainly comes close.
Savour the chunky pieces of meat accompanied by generous servings of apple raita.

Last but not least is the “Jom Apam Balik”, the sole sweet offering of the lot, with banana and ooey-gooey Gula Melaka drizzled atop a layer of peanut butter-based flatbread.
These six culinary creations use local, halal ingredients that will certainly titillate every Malaysian’s taste buds, and are available for takeaway and delivery until Sept 19.
Knowhere Bangsar operates from 11am to 10pm daily and is open for dine-in, delivery and takeaway. Online orders can be placed by visiting www.knowheretoeat.com. Call 010-2202358 for more information.
