NON-HALAL: It is a custom to bring back some food whenever you travel, right? A local speciality of the town you’re visiting, or delicacies picked up along the way.
And none better are treats that can be kept for a week or three before they are eaten.
When it comes to Ipoh, the default would be Ching Han Guan pork floss biscuits.

The shop is located in the centre of Ipoh, just a stone’s throw away from the famous Aun Kheng Lim salt baked chicken.
Queues can be long at Ching Han Guan, especially on weekends, so bring your mask and prepare to wait if you don’t call and order ahead.
If you order ahead, your pork floss biscuits will be ready for pick-up without having to line up.

These non-halal biscuits aren’t exactly biscuits, but pork floss wrapped in thin, fluffy layers of pastry that oozes a mixture of umami and porky goodness.
They are savoury and sweet at the same time and go super well with a cup of black coffee.
The biscuits come in four different flavours – original (with only pork floss), pandan, bakwa (sweetened dried pork), and salted egg yolk.

So, if you are in Ipoh, or just passing through, Ching Han Guan pork floss biscuits make a great food gift or souvenir.
