PETALING JAYA:
It’s noon, but the day already feels so long. With so much on your plate, you’re craving a serene spot to enjoy a good lunch.

Or maybe you’ve had one of those weeks with an endless to-do list. Now that the weekend’s finally here, you’re looking for a place to chill.

Why not head over to A’rest Cafe Damansara Uptown in Petaling Jaya. Although bustling Damansara Uptown may seem like an unlikely choice for a peaceful escape, this café might surprise you.

With its modern, stylish interior that exudes warmth, the café offers the perfect setting to unwind. Plush sofas with pillows, comfortable tables as well as wooden panels and shelves create a cosy, inviting ambiance.

Upstairs, more seating awaits, with patterned tiles and a vinyl record player that adds a charming retro vibe to the place.

Speaking with FMT Lifestyle, outlet manager Ameer Muizzuddin said the café was a great place to recharge.

“This is a place to rest, slow down, chill and take some time away from this busy world – from your work and everyday life,” he said.

If the café’s name sounds familiar, that’s because A’rest also has outlets in Bukit Jalil, The Exchange TRX and Johor. According to Ameer, 22, the Damansara Uptown outlet officially opened its doors last December.

The menu includes local, Western, Japanese and fusion dishes, along with creative drinks and delectable desserts.

If you’re planning a birthday celebration, the café makes it extra special with its unique “Birthday Bash” presentation: a “book” with a surprise dessert inside. When the cover is set alight, the decadent delight within is revealed.

So, how does the food fare?

The truffle pizza is an indulgent choice for those who enjoy earthy flavours. Its base combines mayonnaise and truffles, while the truffle sauce on top deepens its umami richness. Finished with mushrooms and melted cheese, the combination is well-balanced without being overwhelming.

The smoked duck Hawaiian pizza features a thin, crisp crust and tender smoked duck. Generous helpings of mozzarella, tomatoes and pineapples create a delightful balance of savoury and sweet.

The Mentai Salmon Don boasts fresh and flaky salmon, its delicate flavours elevated by the rich, mentai sauce. The caramelised mushrooms with crispy fried garlic add depth of flavour while the fluffy omelette and Japanese rice complete this wholesome meal.

The grilled chicken mala spaghetti is fiery, fragrant and full of flavour. The mala paste, made in-house, turns up the heat, while the juicy grilled chicken rounds out the dish.

Be sure to try one of their signature drinks, the Kokomomo. This refreshing concoction combines soda, peach jelly, coconut water and espresso.

For this drink, you’re first served a combination of soda and peach jelly, before a mix of coconut water and espresso infused with carbon dioxide (CO₂) is added.

The drink then transforms right before your eyes from soft pink to brown with a frothy layer on top – a visual and flavourful delight, indeed.

The Honey Berry Oolong Iced Tea is light and refreshing, blending fragrant oolong tea with strawberry syrup and honey.

If you’re craving something hot, the Double Choco Mocha is the perfect pick-me-up: smooth, strong and rich with chocolatey goodness.

To end your meal on a sweet note, the strawberry cake is a crowd favourite – and for good reason.

You’re first served a slice of strawberry sponge cake with strawberry sauce. Next, a generous amount of fresh cream is added before it is topped with a fresh strawberry dusted with powdered sugar.

Soft, creamy and subtly sweet, it’s the perfect indulgence, especially after a long day.

Overall, true to its name, A’rest is a charming spot to unwind, slow down and relax. With delicious food, creative drinks and a warm, cosy ambiance, you’ll walk out feeling recharged and ready for what’s next.
