With a name like that, you might expect the place to be splashed in bright colours. Instead, what greets you is a warm and inviting ambience.
There are round marble-top tables with wooden stools, exuding the timeless charm of a traditional kopitiam. Bamboo blinds on the wall painted with a cup of kopi, toast and eggs complete the nostalgic look.
The eatery is also filled with retro treasures, from typewriters to a candlestick telephone, vintage television set, charcoal irons and a congkak set – making one feel like they’ve stepped into a Malaysian home from a bygone era.
The food here is every bit as delightful as the décor. The highlight is the Nasi Lemak 7 Warna with spiced fried chicken (ayam goreng berempah).

At the heart of this dish are seven colourful mounds of rice in yellow, green, brown, blue, purple, light red and white. Each hue is naturally-derived – yellow from turmeric, green from pandan leaves and blue from butterfly pea flowers, among others.
The chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy within, while the sambal delivers just the right kick of heat without being too spicy.
Instead of the fried chicken, you can also opt to enjoy the rice with Nyonya chicken curry, Nyonya pongteh chicken, udang lemak nenas (pineapple prawn curry), beef or chicken rendang.
Other items on the menu include fried rice, assam laksa, char koay teow, spaghetti, fish and chips, pai tee, Nyonya laksa and more.

For something lighter, the 7 Warna bun with homemade pandan kaya is a delightful option.
Soft and fluffy, the bread pairs beautifully with the rich, fragrant kaya. If you prefer savoury over sweet, you can also enjoy the bread with curry chicken.
Alternatively, how about going for the quintessential kopitiam classic of half-boiled eggs and toast?
And of course, no kopitiam meal would be complete without a good cup of coffee. Their Kaw Kaw Quang Zhao coffee hits the spot, with the iced version served in a plastic bag and tied “ikat tepi” style, even when you’re dining in!
The drink is suspended on a metal stand with a straw slipped inside for easy sipping. Made with charcoal-roasted beans, the coffee is rich and creamy, with a lovely aroma.

Alternatively, treat yourself to the coconut coffee float where strong coffee meets coconut milk and ice cream, resulting in a creamy, delightful beverage.
End your meal on a sweet note with a bowl of Nyonya cendol – refreshing, decadent and generously loaded with corn, kidney beans and other classic toppings. Other dessert options include bubur cha cha and ABC.
All in all, with its hearty dishes and strong coffee, 7 Warna Kopitiam is a hidden gem worth seeking out in Seremban.
