[NON-HALAL]
Ah, rojak – a local favourite. There’s the type most people are familiar with, with fruits as the main ingredient in a sweet-savoury thick, black sauce. Then there’s the Indian/Mamak-style rojak that’s also known as pasembur in Penang.
Well, what would you say if we told you there’s a place that sells rojak with pork? Yes, you read that right!
Located in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, is a humble eatery that serves up its own unique, non-halal version of this quintessential Malaysian dish.
The standard plate at this unassuming spot comes with cucumber, tofu pok, tofu, hard-boiled egg, pig’s ear, and some offal for RM10 for a small portion. You can also add prawn fritters for RM3 per piece, though it might not be as crispy as you’d like.
The whole thing is then doused with sweet rojak sauce, spicy chilli sauce, and some sesame seeds.

The result is exactly as you might imagine: cold, dry pork and other ingredients with a sauce that some might find too sweet. Even the tartness of the chilli sauce fails to cut through the sweetness of the rojak gravy.
There are loyal customers who frequent this place, but for this writer, porky rojak is rather out of left field. Perhaps these ingredients would fare better with a “loh bak”-type sauce.
Ultimately, purists might prefer to stick to rojak of the fruity variety. But don’t just take this reviewer’s word for it – give it a go yourself. You’ll ever know if you don’t try!
