Today: the first of a miniseries on eateries in Labuan, Sabah – starting with Loong Fish Head Soup Stall.
Despite its name, Loong Fish Head Soup Stall is actually an entire kopitiam, located a stone’s throw away from Dataran Labuan, itself a short walk away from the Dorsett Grand hotel.
This restaurant contains just one stall that offers your choice of noodles served with a tasty soup or dry, kolo-mee style.

If you opt for the dry version, like this writer did, you’ll still get to sample a bowl of the delightful soup, which comes with several pieces of deep-fried fish that look like garoupa.
The noodles have a nice texture and are topped with some crispy albeit unidentifiable bits, while the fish is fresh and still slightly crisp even after having been soaked in the tomato-based broth.
The accompanying chilli sauce isn’t something to shout about, but overall it still makes for a simple but pleasant dinner that will set you back just RM10.

There’s another more popular fish noodle place at Kedai Kopi Chai Wang nearby, but sadly this writer did not get to sample it this time around due to his flight schedule. Perhaps next time!
