Those who live in or are familiar with Melaka will undoubtedly have heard of chicken rice balls. It’s basically chicken rice that is slightly stickier and – true to its name – rolled up in balls, giving it a unique texture when consumed with the meat pairings.
While it is renowned in the A Famosa state, you might be surprised to learn of a place in Selangor that also offers this delectable specialty!
Yew Pin Chicken Rice is situated on Jalan Meru by the LRT station, a stone’s throw away from Klang Parade shopping centre. Parking is usually easy to find as this isn’t a very busy area of Klang.
The restaurant, which is open from early morning until after lunch, is simple, clean, and – best of all – air-conditioned for your comfort.
Take your pick of chicken, roast pork, or barbecue pork (char siew) to go with the rice served in spherical form – made using a recipe reportedly passed down to the eatery’s third-generation owner – or the usual style.
The steamed chicken here is as competent as any in Klang, while the char siew is middle of the road. The star, however, has to be the roast pork: crispy skin, a nice ratio of fat to meat, and just the right aroma of five-spice.

Enjoy it with the rice balls and the generous (basically unlimited) minced ginger and spicy homemade chilli sauce, and you will find lunch to be a very satisfying affair!
