The wild rice restaurant is situated on the 9th floor of Mid Valley Boulevard Hotel. It has a nice indoor seating area as well as an open terrace with a beautiful pool view.

Other than their weekend buffet, Wild Rice Restaurant serves Malaysian food and western dishes.

The clay pot chicken rice, char kueh teow and Penang seafood hor fun.

Your recommended first dish is the popular Char Kueh Teow. The chef comes from Penang and pulls this off rather well. The good sized prawns, chives, bean sprouts and egg combine well to deliver a dish that tastes pretty good.

Similarly, the Penang Hor Fun is worthy of mention as well. You will like the way the egg is done with the yolk half cooked while the white is evenly spread over the flat noodles. The hor fun comes with prawns, squid, dory fish fillet and vegetables.

The chef also prepares a lip smacking version of clay pot chicken rice, with a generous amount of salted fish. The chicken is juicy and tender while the rice is nicely salted and flavourful. After it is served, be sure to mix up the rice thoroughly so that it does not burn at the bottom and get too dry and crispy.

Speaking of crispy, the juicy Hainanese chicken chop consists of a quarter chicken comprising the thigh and drumstick, fresh button mushrooms in brown sauce with mixed vegetables, and of course, French fries.

The pan-fried salmon is good as well, but if you’re saving room go for the avocado burger. This vegetarian dish has beet root, cheese, butter, and a generous serving of sliced avocado. Reminiscent of a California Roll, the combination of avocado, relish and cheese in the bun is super delicious.

If, by some herculean effort, you still have room, opt for the Malaysian oxtail soup. It isn’t too spicy nor tastes too strong. The soup is just nice with the meat being tender and the carrots soft. Being served in a clay pot helps keep the temperature right.

The best thing about the Wild Rice restaurant is that it’s open 24 hours a day. Pricing is kept pretty reasonable for a hotel, ranging from RM15 to RM 22 per dish. Expect to pay slightly more for western dishes, but then again the portions are pretty big. The good news is that the prices are nett, no extra 10% or 6%.
