Mention dinner in Klang and three categories of food instantly come mind – bak kut teh, seafood, and taichow places.
It’s worth looking at one of the older, more traditional taichow (food cooked to order) places that offers some rather unique dishes – Hin Kee Restaurant.
Hin Kee is located across Jalan Meru opposite Klang Parade, on a medan selera sort of set up within the residential area. The restaurant consists of a zinc roof without any walls and it’s reasonably clean, with ceiling fans to keep you coo;.
Typical of these old school places, there’s no printed menu. There is however a row of their popular dishe names printed on A4 paper above the counter, all in Chinese characters. You can always ask the server for suggestions.

Most people end up ordering the six signature dishes – deep fried pork offal with ginger, duck noodle, grilled squid, lala (clams), vegetables, and fried Hokkien mee. The dishes do not take too long to arrive, which is always a good thing.

You will find the pork offal simply excellent, prepared right with the fried ginger strips nicely balancing the porky taste. Pair this with a beer if you are so inclined.
The grilled squid is similarly enjoyable, with a texture that’s just right and fresh, with the bits of caramelized skin really taking it to the next level.
The noodle dishes are also pretty good, though you may enjoy their duck noodle more than the Hokkien mee, which tends to be average.

The lala dish may strike you as odd tasting. It is sort of like a Thai steamed fish sauce, sourish and slightly spicy but with lala instead of fish.
Overall though it is a very positive experience. Just order a different type of lala preparation and skip the Hokkien mee. The Pork offal and squid are the two dishes to definitely order.
