Ahead of its May 2018 release, franchise spin-off “Solo: A Star Wars Story” is to receive its first trailer on Monday, February 5, though a teaser clip may emerge even earlier.

Disney is to premiere the first trailer for “Solo: A Star Wars Story” on breakfast news and talk show “Good Morning America,” broadcast on Disney’s ABC network Monday, February 5, 2018.

That much has been confirmed by the media giant, after suggestions that a short teaser clip would nail a spot during the February 4 NFL Super Bowl match between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots.

The trailer is expected to be distributed online shortly afterwards.

As the second “Star Wars” anthology film, “Solo” launches May 25 in US theaters, one week after “Deadpool 2” and three after “Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War.”

There’s then a four-week gap until “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” arrives late June, a time span punctuated by releases for heist comedy “Ocean’s 8” and animated superhero adventure “Incredibles 2.”

Starring Alden Ehrenreich as a younger Han Solo, a role played by Harrison Ford since “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope” in 1977, the movie also features Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca.

Newcomers to the franchise include Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Paul Bettany.

Production started with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller of “21 Jump Street,” “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” and “The Lego Movie” at the helm, though following their departure in June 2017, it was Ron Howard of “Apollo 13,” “A Beautiful Mind,” and Dan Brown’s “Da Vinci Code” franchise who came in to complete filming.

Following Lucasfilm’s US$4billion USD acquisition by Disney in 2012, the studio has produced 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (budget US$306million; international box office US$2billion) and 2017’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” (budget US$200million+; box office US$1.3billion) with franchise prequel “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” arriving 2016 (budget US$265million; box office US$1billion).

A sequel trilogy closer, at this point known as “Episode IX,” is due for December 2019.

Beyond that, another anthology series spin-off is in development, supposedly focusing on bounty hunter and Han Solo nemesis Boba Fett, while “The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson has been entrusted with developing a new trilogy of films; Lucasfilm also has a live-action TV series in the works for a Disney online video streaming service scheduled for launch in 2019.
