PETALING JAYA:
The government has imposed anti-dumping duties on Japanese cold rolled coils following the completion of its investigations, which began on Jan 31, based on a petition filed by Mycron Steel CRC Sdn Bhd.

In a statement today, the investment, trade and industry ministry said a final determination had been made to impose anti-dumping duties on cold rolled coils of alloy or non-alloy steel of a thickness between 0.2mm to 2.6mm and width between 700mm to 1,300mm.

It said the investigation, as per the Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Act 1993 and Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Regulations 1994, has excluded tin mill black plate or cold rolled coils imported for automotive or electric and electronic end usages.

It said a 9.03% duty was imposed on products from the Nippon Steel Corporation, while other manufacturers were slapped with a 22.62% duty.

“The Royal Malaysian Customs Department will enforce the collection of the anti-dumping duties for a period of five years, effective Sept 29, 2023 to Sept 28, 2028. The imposition of anti-dumping duties on exports of subject merchandise from Japan is expected to address the unfair trade practices,” the ministry said.

It added the government excluded duties for the producers and exporters with minimal dumping margin, which were Daido Steel Co Ltd and JFE Steel Corporation.
