KUALA LUMPUR:
Two Assemblymen, Chang Lih Kang and Tan Kar Hing, were among those ordered by the Magistrate’s Court to enter their defence on charges of obstructing public officers from carrying out their duties.

Magistrate Nur Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor ruled the prosecution had made out a prima facie case on the charges against the duo and four other people viz. Chee Chu Sang, Yong Ming Chong, Gan Zhi Mou, and G Tamilarason.

She added that based on the testimonies of witnesses for the prosecution, there was no need for charges to be amended. “The trial will resume on November 28 and 29,” she said.

Lawyers Gobind Singh and Eric Paulsen are representing those charged.

The six were charged last year after they were arrested at the #KitaLawan assembly. They allegedly obstructed Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) officers from carrying out their duties.

They were charged under section 186 of the Penal Code, read together with section 34. The charges carry a jail term of up to two years and a maximum fine of RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.

Chee was slapped with one more charge, under section 353, of using criminal violence against a DBKL officer from carrying out his duties.

He can be jailed up to two years or fined or suffer both under the additional charge.
