
MUMBAI: A boat carrying around 56 people capsized off the coast of India’s financial capital Mumbai today, a statement from the local authority said.
A total of 21 people were rescued, of which one was declared dead, the Brihanmumbai municipal corporation said in a statement.
Rescue and relief operations are ongoing, it added.
Local TV showed rescue workers in lifejackets near the capsized vessel.
The boat, called Neelkamal, was heading towards the Elephanta caves, a popular tourist destination off the coast of Mumbai, when it capsized, the Brihanmumbai municipal corporation said.
