PETALING JAYA: A 43-year-old woman who stomped to death her live-in boyfriend after a quarrel was sentenced to 5½ years’ jail for culpable homicide in Singapore.

Sukanya Praphuttha, a Thai national who is a permanent resident in the republic, pleaded guilty to killing 55-year-old handyman Lee Yang Boo at their North Bridge Road flat, Straits Times reported.

The High Court heard that the Singaporean man was 10kg lighter than his girlfriend. He was heard shouting “don’t beat me” and “stop beating me”.

Praphuttha and Lee had lived together at the rented flat for seven years and their relationship was marked by quarrels and fights.

On the night of Feb 28, 2015, the couple went drinking with friends at a nightclub.

Lee scolded Sukanya for dancing with a male stranger and the couple continued quarelling when they returned home, with Lee accusing his girlfriend of sleeping with the man and casting aspersions on her family.

A scuffle ensued and Lee was left lying down on the floor of the bedroom. Sukanya stomped on his head with such force that he suffered skull fractures.

Later, she sought help from a neighbour, who called the police. An autopsy concluded that Lee died from a head injury and 47 bruises were found all over his body.

She was initially charged with murder but the charge was reduced to culpable homicide, which carries a maximum of 10 years’ jail.
