SERDANG:
Studies have shown that spending time with animals – feeding, petting, or even cuddling them – is a great way to de-stress and reduce anxiety, achieve peace of mind, and generally just feel happier.

So, if you’re looking to spend a day in a tranquil place away from the city in the company of animals, head over to G2G Animal Garden where you’ll meet some truly irresistible creatures such as birds, cats, ponies, and deer among others.

Around 30km away from Kuala Lumpur, the petting zoo is located at the Malaysian Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS).

Even if you’re not a bird enthusiast, the aviary here is an absolute delight. Speaking to FMT, ranger Fakarudin Abu Hassan, 40, said there are approximately 30 species of birds here from macaws, sun conures, cockatiels, and even doves.

The birds can be seen playing with each other, resting on perches, or eating. Visitors are allowed to feed the birds with sunflower seeds purchased at the aviary.

However, Fakarudin, who has been a ranger with G2G Animal Garden for four years, has some important advice: “Although a majority of the animals here are friendly, it is advisable to get a ranger’s assistance before you feed a bird or any other creature, because they, too, have their own characters.”

Another highlight of G2G Animal Garden is a cosy room called the “therapy house”, home to cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, and hedgehogs. The place is air-conditioned and comfortable, tempting one to spend hours here with these animals.

“This is a place where visitors can release any stress or tension by petting, playing, and spending time with the animals. However, they need the help of a ranger to remove the animals from their respective cages,” explained Fakarudin.

Alternatively, stop at the Cat House just a short distance away. Here, you’ll find adorable Siamese, British shorthair, and domestic long hair cats, all looking pleased as punch as visitors stroke their beautiful fur.

The pony rides are another popular attraction among visitors, especially children. And reaching out to stroke these docile-looking and beautiful ponies is rather irresistible.

There are three ponies here, and ranger Muhammad Fakhrul Hakimi, 19, has the rather enviable job of taking the children out on the rides.

Speaking to FMT, he said, “This is a great way for kids to know more about ponies and experience what it feels to ride one. However, the rides are only available for three- to 12-year-olds because we don’t want the ponies to get tired.”

Apart from these three ponies, there are also two Falabella horses, an Argentine breed of small horses.

While here, don’t miss the chance to stop by the Deer Sanctuary, where a friendly herd of deer awaits. During FMT’s visit, these graceful-looking creatures with their slender legs and beautiful eyes were waiting eagerly for visitors to feed them – clearly knowing the drill and very comfortable with humans.

Although the majority of them are does, there are two stags who remained at the back – content to watch the visitors from afar and occasionally taking a stroll around the enclosure.

There is also a Rabbit Garden and a Reptile House here apart from a wide range of other animals living in enclosures throughout the place.

Among them are cute fennec foxes (the smallest fox in the world), prairie dogs, meerkats, raccoons, Finlayson’s squirrels, an ancient-looking Sulcata tortoise (the third-largest tortoise species in the world), and beautiful mandarin ducks as well as blue peafowls.

Overall, G2G Animal Garden offers you an escape from the general stressors of life, a chance to go back to nature and enjoy the company of the various creatures that share the planet with humans.
