PETALING JAYA:
As the pandemic rages on, shelters are finding it increasingly harder to cope with the costs of caring for hundreds of animals.

KL Pooch Resort & Rescue (KLPR), which has been operating since 2011, is one of the many organisations in need of public support. It has over 250 dogs at their Kalumpang shelter.

Here are five up for adoption, all females who would make the perfect pet for any loving family.

Yuki

Believed to be an abandoned pet, Yuki does not let her past haunt her and still loves humans wholeheartedly. (KLPR pic)

A beautiful girl inside and out, Yuki knows when it’s time to have fun and when it’s time to be calm and gentle.

She was found wandering at a dump site, with evidence suggesting she had previously had an owner who abandoned her.

The five-year-old was rescued by KLPR volunteers, who cleaned her up and provided her with care and love.

Despite her past, Yuki has not lost any love for humans as she is an incredibly sweet pooch who is up for fun times with her two-legged companions.

She has been dewormed, spayed, and has received the necessary vaccinations.

Bloom

Expect nothing less than pure adoration from Bloom, who is always happy to meet new people. (KLPR pic)

If you ever visit KLPR’s shelter, Bloom will be one of the first to ensure you receive a warm welcome.

Part of the free-roaming “welcoming committee”, Bloom is said to almost worship humans, and her adoration cannot be understated – she knows every trick in the book to squeeze the affection out of everyone she meets.

She is also friendly towards other dogs, while displaying a high level of confidence and independence.

Estimated to be around five years old, Bloom is an absolute sweetheart who would make a perfect pet.

She has been dewormed, spayed, and has received the necessary vaccinations.

Paws

Never seen without a smile on her face, Paws’ life goal is to bring a smile to everyone’s face. (KLPR pic)

You hardly ever see this girl without a smile on her face, which clearly shows she is one who takes life at her own pace.

This three-year-old is an easygoing pup who loves nothing more than to be in good company. She gets along well with humans and other dogs, and her cheerful demeanour brightens the mood of those around her.

While her front left limb is slightly shorter than the rest of her legs, this does not impede her from enjoying life and playing freely.

She would do well in a forever home with a family that values devotion, fun, and big smiles all around.

Paws has been dewormed, spayed, and has received the necessary vaccinations.

Frida

Sitting still is hard for Frida, as fun is the order of the day for her. (KLPR pic)

F is for fun and F is for Frida, a cheeky six-year-old who is unashamed of her playful nature.

Even though she lacks vocal cords, it does not deter her from trying to speak like people do, much to everyone’s amusement.

Loving and sweet, she is an easygoing dog who enjoys pulling the odd trick on her loved ones.

She would make the perfect pet for those who can spend some time playing and communicating with her, although she is also capable of being on her own and does not need to be pampered or constantly showered with attention.

Frida has been dewormed, spayed, and has received the necessary vaccinations.

Puddles

Content to be still, Puddles is a loving dog who will enjoy being by your side. (KLPR pic)

When she was a pup, Puddles used to entertain herself by jumping into puddles and getting soaked all over.

She has since outgrown the habit, and today, the four-year-old is a mild-mannered pooch who is content with seeing the world go by.

But don’t mistake that contentment for laziness – with enough motivation, she will happily tussle with other dogs.

She can often be found enjoying the sunlight under the laundry hung out to dry at KLPR’s shelter. The staff half-expect her to spout a haiku, given that she often looks like a sage in deep thought.

If you are looking for an easygoing dog who requires little maintenance, Puddles is perfect for you.

She has been dewormed, spayed, and has received the necessary vaccinations.

Due to travel restrictions, visits to the shelter are not possible but KLPR will make arrangements to send the dogs to their adopters, who have a two-week foster period to decide if their new pet is a good match.

Once the adoption is finalised, there will be a fee of RM350 and in return, you will get a lifetime of benefits including discounted dog food, boarding and grooming sessions. Adopters and their dogs will also have unlimited use of KLPR’s recreation facilities.

So many beautiful dogs are waiting for forever homes and the chance at a good and happy life. Adopt, don’t shop.

If you wish to adopt any of the dogs featured here, contact KLPR via WhatsApp at 012-3960977 or 016-2333647. You can also visit its website for more information.
