FMT in partnership with The Global Institute For Tomorrow (GIFT) brings you a Covid-19 “healer” from Tanzania.

When the pandemic struck the country, Doris came up with the idea of a Ramadhan basket.

It was basically a gift box of rice, beans, salt, sugar and cooking oil for elderly people who were most at risk of contracting Covid-19.

With the help of sponsors and contributors, Doris was able to deliver provisions to over three hundred families in different parts of Dar es Salaam, such as Kigamboni, Tandale, and areas along the coast like Bagamoyo.

Calvin Kulaya is Tanzanian, born and raised, and has a passion for photography. He enjoys capturing portraits, scenery, and objects. His photography philosophy is simple, “I take pictures to show generations the strength, beauty, and enthusiasm that is found in different people, materials and places”. He firmly believes his skills and expertise will be a valuable asset for the photography industry and film industry as he is able to capture stories and moments from his country that cannot simply be put into words. ‘The Other Hundred Healers’ is an initiative by the non-profit organisation GIFT. The 240-page, full-colour, hardcover book can be purchased here at US$40 per copy for a minimum order of 20 copies.
