KUALA LUMPUR:
The national diving squad’s poor performance at the 2023 World Aquatic Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, continued today when the pair of Jellson Jabillin and Eilisha Rania Abrar Raj failed to get on the podium in the mixed 10m synchronised event.

Jellson-Eilisha collected 251.64 points to finish 12th out of 14 contenders in the final at the Fukuoka Prefectural Pool.

Wang Feilong and Zhang Jiaqi of China were in a class of their own to claim the gold medal with 339.54 points, followed by Jose Balleza Isaias and Viviana Del Angel Peniche from Mexico who won silver (313.44 points).

Japanese pair Hiroki Ito and Minami Itahashi came in third (305.34 points).

In another letdown, Ooi Tze Liang and Syafiq Puteh only finished 19th out of 27 pairs in the qualifying round after collecting 326.73 points in the men’s 3m synchronised event.

Chinese divers Wang Zongyuan and Long Daoyi topped the qualification round with 451.44 points, followed by Tocci Giovanni and Marsaglia Lorenzo from Italy (384.69 points) and Britons Jack Laugher and Anthony Harding (383.46 points).

The result meant Tze Liang-Syafiq did not qualify for the final after failing to place themselves in the top 12.

The final will take place this evening.

The World Aquatic Championships started yesterday and ends on July 30.
