
Competing as the hosts, the national contingent won four gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the Perak Lawn Bowls Arena to clinch Malaysia’s ninth Asian title.
The national team swept three of the four gold medals at stake today, courtesy of the men’s singles, men’s fours, and women’s triples events.
They had grabbed a gold, two silvers and a bronze in the first session that took place three days ago.
The Philippines emerged as runners-up after winning three gold and two bronze medals followed by India with one gold, four silver and one bronze in third place.
Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple emerged as the men’s singles champion after beating India’s Putul Sunawal 21-6 in the final.
The national men’s fours squad comprising Muhammad Hizlee Abdul Rais, Amirul Daniel Abdul Rahim, Muhammad Haiqal Azami and Mohammad Soufi Rusli also performed well in the final.
They defeated the Thai quartet of Naret Alangetuan, Saman Pollangeon, Pattawee Montien and Thanakrit Thammasarn 16-13.
In the women’s triples event, Nurul Alyani Jamil, Syafiqa Haidar Afif and Azlina Arshad emerged champions after overcoming Rupa Rani Tirkey, Pinki and Tania Choudhury of India 17-10.
Malaysia also emerged as the overall champions of the Under-25 tournament after winning the mixed doubles event.
A total of eight teams took part in the championships, namely Japan, Hong Kong, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia.
