PETALING JAYA:
Debutant Syaqiera Mashayikh set a personal best score of 630 points to finish 43rd out of 64 archers in the women’s recurve ranking round in Tokyo today.

She beat her previous record of 619 points which she achieved at the final Olympic qualifier in Paris last month, scoring 18 10s and three Xs in the 12 ends.

It is also the best score posted by a female Malaysian archer at the Games.

Syaqiera will face Russia’s Elena Osipova in the first round on Tuesday.

Her outing ensures Malaysia stand a chance of making the mixed team event if Khairul Anuar Mohamad can equal or better her performance in the men’s event later.
