NEW YORK:
Promising 15-year-old Giovanni Reyna, the son of former US World Cup star Claudio Reyna, is slated to join the youth program of Borussia Dortmund in November, according to multiple reports on Thursday.

The younger Reyna will depart for the German club, where US national team star Christian Pulisic has played since 2015, in November once he turns 16.

Reyna is currently part of the New York City FC academy. His father is the sporting director for NYCFC.

Giovanni Reyna holds a Portuguese passport due to a grandmother’s ties to that country, and that will allow him to play abroad at age 16 instead of waiting until age 18 under FIFA guidelines.

Reyna is considered to be a future candidate to join the US men’s national team.

Claudio Reyna earned 112 caps for the US national team from 1994-2006 and was named to four World Cup teams. He played most of his career in Europe, including the Bundesliga and the English Premier League.
