Fresh from signing German centre back Toni Leistner on a free transfer earlier this month, Fernandes said the club was eyeing more quality names after losing goalkeeper Alex Smithies to Premier League team Cardiff City last month.
“The English League Championship is very tough. But it is the beginning of a new season and we are ambitious and hopeful. I can’t mention the names we are after, it is too early,” he said.
However, he believed that the club already had a good set of players and did not need a major overhaul.
The QPR youth academy, he said, had produced several talented players over the years and he promised that more would be featured in the upcoming season.
He is particularly pleased about the progress shown by the club’s 20-year old wonderkid Eberechi Eze who signed for the club two years ago.
The young forward scored two goals in 14 league matches last year and has attracted the attention of Premier League’s Crystal Palace and Brighton.
“Eze is doing really well and we are happy about that. We have a lot of good academy players other than him though,” said Fernandes.
QPR will kick off its new season against Preston North End on Aug 4, hoping for a better result this year after finishing 16th last season.
