<p>Despite the sweltering heat, some 50,000 people thronged the <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2022/07/16/a-month-after-controversy-bon-odori-shines-without-a-hitch/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bon Odori</a></span> festival at the Shah Alam National Sports Complex on Saturday &#8211; about 15,000 more visitors than at the previous event in 2019.</p>
<p>Excited Malaysians and other guests <a href="https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/leisure/2022/07/19/bon-odori-a-japanese-festival-with-much-malaysian-merrymaking/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="color: #ff0000;">eagerly welcomed</span></a> back the event after a three-year pandemic pause, many dressing up in Japanese garb and joining in the dances with much merrimaking.</p>
<p>Lines of revellers were seen forming outside the sports complex even before the gates opened at 4.30pm, with the celebration only kicking off two and a half hours later. The festivities began winding down after 9pm.</p>
