PETALING JAYA:
Rescuers have found the body of a man believed to have been swept away while attempting to swim across Sungai Pahang in Temerloh.

Samsul Azmi Ishury, 41, a bilal at Masjid Kampung Lipat Kajang in Kuala Krau, was found at 9.35am, about 2.2km from where he was reported missing near Kampung Loyang.

Pahang fire and rescue department assistant operations director Salahuddin Isa said the search involved firefighters, water rescue personnel, a K9 unit, police, and locals.

He said firefighters received an emergency call at 7.30am on Monday after Samsul’s motorcycle and belongings were found on the riverbank. A witness also reported seeing him swimming in the area.

“Initial investigations found that the victim had attempted to swim across Sungai Pahang but was swept away by strong currents,” Utusan Malaysia reported him as saying.
