PETALING JAYA:
Four Chinese nationals believed to be housebreakers were arrested in Kuala Perlis yesterday evening after attempting to ram their car through a roadblock and escape the police.

Kangar police chief Yusharifuddin Yusop said police also found equipment believed to be for housebreaking, including disguises and wigs.

He said police officers had approached a suspicious-looking silver Toyota Innova in Taman Sentosa, Kuala Perlis, following a public tip-off.

“Those in the vehicle suddenly accelerated in an attempt to escape, but the police gave chase. The suspects then attempted to ram through a roadblock in Kampung Wai, but the personnel stationed there managed to stop the vehicle,” he said in a statement today.

Yusharifuddin said the four men refused to open their doors when ordered, and attempted to reverse the car, prompting police to smash the vehicle’s windows.

“The suspects tried to escape, but they were arrested and brought to the Kuala Perlis police station,” he said.

Yusharifuddin said the seized equipment included four steel bars, an adjustable spanner, cutters, screwdrivers, two wigs, four masks, gloves, two sets of walkie-talkies, and passports. Police also seized the vehicle, which was rented in Kuala Lumpur.

He said the suspects, aged between 45 and 52, entered the country as tourists via KLIA on May 5. They had no criminal records, and urine tests returned negative results.

“All four have been remanded for five days from today to aid investigations under Section 457 of the Penal Code (for housebreaking),” he said.
