PETALING JAYA:
Perikatan Nasional chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has voiced concern over the status of inter-ethnic relations in the country.

Describing the nation as standing at a crucial juncture, the Terengganu menteri besar said Malaysians must remember that the nation’s multiracial society is an “incomparable blessing from God”.

Samsuri said all politicians must remember that they are to lead all Malaysians, not just the Malays or any particular community.

“Today, inter-ethnic relations in our country appear to be at a troubling crossroads, showing signs of a growing drift,” he said in a Facebook post.

“We must remain mindful that the multiracial society we have inherited is an incomparable blessing from God.

“However, without wise and responsible stewardship, it may turn into calamity, much like what has happened in other nations, including those that regard themselves as champions of democracy and human rights.

“We must also remember that we have been entrusted to lead all people … not just Malays, but all communities, including the Chinese, Indians, Kadazan, Iban, Bidayuh and others.”

Samsuri, a PAS vice-president, said this was among the matters he had raised in the Terengganu legislative assembly recently.
