MELAKA:
A father and his two children and three others were injured in a five-vehicle pile-up on the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin highway near the Bertam Malim apartments here on Friday night.

Melaka Tengah police chief, Christopher Patit said a Toyota Avanza, Toyota Vios, Perodua Axia, Honda Civic and Proton Wira were involved in the collision at around midnight.

The 45-year-old driver of the Vios and his two children, aged 15 and 17, and three others suffered various injuries, including head trauma, a fractured left arm, and injuries to the abdomen, shoulders, and face, as well as chest pains and injury to the hand.

The driver of the Axia, a 26-year-old woman, escaped the ordeal unhurt.

“Preliminary investigations suggested that the Avanza, travelling from the direction of Cheng, veered into the opposite lane, colliding with the Vios which was in the middle lane heading towards Cheng town.

“The impact caused the Avanza to spin before crashing into a Axia in the right lane and a Civic in the middle lane,” Patit said in a statement today.

A Wira in the left lane then collided with the Vios, which had been shunted into the path of the Civic following the initial impact with the Avanza.

Police are tracking down witnesses and seeking CCTV or dashboard camera footage from the public to assist in the investigation.
