Military officer in MEX crash charged with murder, DUI

KUALA LUMPUR:
A military officer was charged at the magistrates’ court here today with murdering an influencer and content creator from Bangladesh in a car accident earlier this month.

Jad Faid Arhan, a captain in the artillery division, is accused of murdering Muzahid Millad at KM1.9 of the Maju Expressway, from Salak Selatan to Jalan Tun Razak, on April 23.

If convicted, he faces the death penalty or a jail term of between 30 and 40 years, as well as 12 strokes of the rotan.

He informed the court that he understood the murder charge.

Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan set July 21 for mention. No bail was granted.

In a separate court, Jad also claimed trial before magistrate Tg Syazwany Yasmin Tuan Roslan to two charges under Section 44(1A)(b) of the Road Transport Act of driving under the influence of alcohol.

He is alleged to have caused injuries to a car driver, Jailani Sapih, 40, and his passenger, Nafisa Tabassum Adiba, 20, at the same location, date, and time.

If found guilty, he faces imprisonment of between seven and 10 years, as well as a fine of between RM30,000 and RM50,000.

Tg Syazwany fixed July 21 for case management.

Lawyer Nazreen Jaafar Abdullah represented Jad while deputy public prosecutor Nordin Ismail appeared for the prosecution in both courts.
