KUALA LUMPUR:
The Attorney-General’s Chambers has rejected representations lodged by controversial singer Wee Meng Chee, also known as Namewee, seeking the withdrawal of two drug charges against him.

The decision was conveyed to the magistrates’ court today by deputy public prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal.

Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hassan Basri then set the matter for case management on May 29.

In the representations filed early this year, Wee asked that the prosecution drop the charges under Section 9(1) of the Poison Acts 1952 and Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, or reduce them to lesser charges.

In January, Wee pleaded not guilty to possessing 0.78g of sildenafil and an amended charge of possessing 1.57g of methamphetamine.

The offences are alleged to have taken place at a hotel room in Banyan Tree Hotel, Jalan Conlay, on Oct 22, 2025.

Sildenafil is a controlled substance commonly found in erectile dysfunction medication.

Wee was arrested at a hotel in the capital shortly after reporting the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yun Hsin.
