SHAH ALAM:
The domestic trade and cost of living ministry foiled an attempt to misappropriate diesel involving a tanker lorry at a petrol station in Pandamaran, Klang, this evening.

The ministry’s chief enforcement officer for Selangor, Hanizam Kechek, said the incident was uncovered during a routine patrol when officers spotted a tanker lorry refuelling in a suspicious manner.

“Checks revealed that the lorry’s original tank had been modified to enable diesel to be transferred to an additional tank,” he said in a statement.

Hanizam said an initial investigation found that the lorry driver, a Malaysian in his 30s, did not possess valid documents for the ownership and transportation of diesel.

He was arrested for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, while the petrol station may also face action under the Supply Control Regulations 1974.

Hanizam said his officers seized diesel worth RM6,000 during yesterday’s routine patrol.
