G Gnanaraja insisted he had no motive to frame Lim in the undersea tunnel project case or to use the latter for his benefit.
“If I really wanted to create a problem or cause harm to Lim, I would have come to court and said that he received four bags (of cash) instead of one.
“I just wanted to tell the truth (after being charged with cheating),” he said, when responding to questions by deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin.
Wan Shaharuddin had asked Gnanaraja to comment on Lim’s lawyer’s contention that the businessman had lied in court about handing Lim RM2 million.
Gnanaraja also told the court that on Aug 20, 2017, fellow businessman Zarul Ahmad Zulkifli dropped Lim off outside Publika, with the DAP leader holding a bag filled with cash.
“I agree with (Lim’s lawyer) Ramkarpal that this situation defied logic. But it did happen; I took a photo of him (leaving the car).
“He (Lim) also came to my home after midnight,” he added.
The hearing continues before judge Azura Alwi on May 6.
The court will also deliver its decision on the prosecution’s bid to amend the charge.
Lim is accused of using his position as then Penang chief minister to solicit a 10% share of profits from the undersea tunnel project and receiving RM3.3 million in bribes from Zarul.
He also faces two charges of dishonestly misappropriating RM208.7 million worth of state land.
