KOTA BHARU:
Nine foreign nationals and three Malaysians were arrested in Tumpat yesterday during a police operation against migrant smuggling.

The foreigners comprised seven Bangladeshi men who lacked valid travel passes, and two Myanmar men who could not produce any travel document. They are believed to have entered the country illegally from Thailand.

General Operations Force commander Ahmad Radzi Hussain said a 24-year-old local man, suspected of acting as a transporter, was also arrested, along with two local women aged 18 and 17, one of whom is believed to have acted as a ‘tonto’.

Initial investigations revealed that the man was paid RM100 for each migrant transported, while the women received about RM150 for monitoring the movements of the authorities.
