Cops record statements from 12 in RM9.7mil gold heist probe

Police have recorded statements from 12 people in their investigation into a RM9.7 million ribbery at a jewellery shop in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

Brickfields police chief Hoo Chang Hook said those questioned included the premises owner and staff, as well as the previous registered owner of the getaway vehicle.

Hoo said police are also analysing CCTV footage recorded at and around the location.

“Police are working to determine the suspects’ movements after their escape,” Kosmo reported him as saying today.

Earlier, Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said police were on the hunt for four men involved in the robbery at the jewellery shop on Jalan Tun Sambanthan. The incident was reported at 11am.

He said the men, who were armed with two pistols, fled with 21 trays of gold weighing an estimated 15kg. They also stole a shotgun and a round of ammunition from the shop’s security guard.

Fadil said the case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and Section 397 for armed robbery.
