Tuan Ibrahim also denied that the matter was discussed at a meeting with Muhyiddin and other PAS leaders on Jan 16.
“We only agreed to strengthen the presidential council, while the mechanisms and structure would be examined (at a later date),” he told FMT.
Earlier today, Muhyiddin claimed that Bersatu and PAS had agreed to abolish the PN chairman’s post as part of the opposition coalition’s restructuring at a meeting held at his residence more than a week ago.
Among the PAS leaders who attended the meeting were Tuan Ibrahim, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and the party’s secretary-general, Takiyuddin Hassan.
Muhyiddin claimed that during the meeting, the two parties agreed to PN’s restructuring, which would see Bersatu heading the presidential council, with the executive committee being led by PAS.
He also said the presidential council would be the highest decision-making body in terms of PN’s policies, while the executive council would handle the administrative aspects.
PN currently has no chairman following Muhyiddin’s resignation, which took effect on Jan 1, in the wake of the Perlis political crisis.
Muhyiddin said he was informed on Jan 24 that Takiyuddin had issued an invitation for an extraordinary Supreme Council meeting to discuss, among other matters, the appointment of a new PN chairman.
“This particular agenda is not in line with what was agreed on by Bersatu and PAS leaders on Jan 16. This is why the Jan 29 meeting was cancelled,” he said in a letter dated Jan 27.
It was reported yesterday that the Supreme Council meeting scheduled for tomorrow had been cancelled, with the heads of PN’s four components set to convene at Muhyiddin’s home instead.
Meanwhile, Takiyuddin expressed regret that Muhyiddin’s letter had circulated on social media and was reported by the media.
“We are unable to confirm agreement with any of the details contained in the letter, particularly regarding the proposed formation of the PN presidential council and the abolition of the chairman’s position.
“Accordingly, we will formally communicate our position on this matter in writing to the presidents of PN member parties,” he said in a statement.
