Petronas said it was made aware of social media posts depicting the company as the title sponsor for the league, which is said to be a rebrand of the previous Bangladesh Premier League.
“We wish to clarify that Petronas has not entered into any sponsorship agreement for the Bangladesh Football League, nor have we authorised the use of our name or brand in connection with this league.
“Petronas takes the integrity of our brand seriously and remains focused on delivering value to our stakeholders and communities where we operate,” it said in a statement.
A Facebook page named after the league claimed yesterday that Petronas had become the league’s top sponsor.
The page is less than two days old, but its posting was reposted by the official Facebook page of the Bangladesh Football Federation.
