PETALING JAYA:
Fahmi Reza has been summoned by police in a sedition investigation over a video he produced on Musa Aman, the Sabah governor.

He said today it was the first time he has been called up over his “Kelas Demokrasi” series of workshops live-streamed on TikTok about Malaysia’s system of constitutional government and on the electoral process, although his ‘Kelas Demokrasi’ series had been banned online and offline in the past.

The graphic artist and activist said in a Facebook post that he received a notice from the police this afternoon, ordering him to present himself over to the authorities tomorrow to be questioned over a video on the Sabah governor.

Fahmi said he posted the video called “Can TYT Musa Aman be dismissed?” on Facebook two days ago. He said the police investigation was over alleged “intentional insult with the intent to provoke breach of peace”.

“I have done many ‘Kelas Demokrasi’ sessions and videos for every election season in 2022 and 2023. I will not stop doing the sessions every night on TikTok, because in a democratic country, the people are the boss,” he wrote.

Fahmi promised to turn up at Bukit Aman tomorrow.

The investigation comes a month after the Kuala Lumpur High Court granted him leave to pursue a judicial review against the inspector-general of police, the director-general of immigration, and two others over a travel ban imposed on him.

Fahmi seeks RM408 in special damages as well as other damages to be assessed by the court.

He has faced travel bans twice this year. In June, Fahmi said he was stopped from boarding a flight to Singapore and told by immigration officers he was blacklisted from travelling abroad. However, the police and the government later denied he was on a blacklist.

Fahmi said he believed it was over his graphic art about Musa being appointed Sabah’s governor. In May, he said he had been stopped from entering Sabah and had to return to Kuala Lumpur.
