SHAH ALAM:
The parents of an inmate who died while serving a sentence for murder at Kajang prison have withdrawn their High Court revision application challenging the coroner’s findings on his cause of death.

K Roopan died eight days before the hearing of his appeal, which was scheduled for June 29, 2021.

An inquest into his death held that Roopan died of natural causes – pulmonary embolism caused by a blood clot in his left leg.

The coroner also ruled out any suggestion that Roopan’s death was caused or contributed to by the negligence of the prison’s officers or doctors.

Today, lawyer M Puravalen informed the court that Roopan’s parents, Karnagaran Kunchi Raman and Pathmayathy Kanapathy, would not pursue the revision.

He told Justice Bhupinder Singh that the parents were there to see if the court had any questions or needed them to confirm the withdrawal.

Bhupinder then asked about the parents’ civil lawsuit against Kajang Hospital, which Puravalen informed him was ongoing before another High Court.

The court then struck out the revision application.

Deputy public prosecutor Parvin Hameedah Natchiar appeared for the prosecution.
