Utusan Malaysia reported Ipoh police chief Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad as saying the 30-year-old man was arrested after the victim filed a report at 11.30am.
He said the man also broke the side mirror of a lorry parked in front of a toy shop.
“The suspect then ran and was chased to a goldsmith shop on Jalan Lahat, where policemen caught him and seized his weapon.
“Based on preliminary checks, the local man is believed to have been under the influence of drugs,” Abang Zainal Abidin said.
He said checks found that the man had a criminal record for 12 offences, with seven criminal cases and five related to drugs.
“The suspect was arrested and detained at the Perak police headquarters for further investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means and Section 427 for mischief.
Earlier today, a 34-second video was shared online showing a man with a meat cleaver standing in front of a goldsmith shop.
It is understood that the man slashed the victim in the back with the knife before hurling a hammer at the lorry.
